Not long ago, transferable skills were the answer to job mobility: a valuable network, negotiation, technical judgment, business analytics tools use, business development strategies and execution, the ability to translate between the engineers who build a product and the people who buy it…
A job post I read this week asks candidates to bring their own AI agents. It said: “Apply if:
- You´ve run high ticket, low-volume accounts
- Your agents already helped you scale”
BYOA most commonly stands for Bring Your Own Agent, an emerging workplace trend where employees bring their own custom AI assistants or language model-powered agents to work rather than relying solely on company-provided tools.
What you carry into the job keeps growing, and it now includes your own digital infrastructure next to your personal skills.
That is the part worth planning. One should be careful, loyal and honest at identifying what layers are company owned and which are yours to keep in a repository: the skills, the prompts, the evals, the connectors. When you use company infrastructure and data inside company walls, you must leave them there. Even if some of the tooling is yours, the data is never yours, and the line between the layers is the whole new professional question.
But, yes, in the next job posts I´m launching I´ll ask if you can BYOA.
